Aramco and Lanxess both owned 50% of shares in Arlanxeo (350 employees), a manufacturer of synthetic rubber in the port of Antwerp (Belgium). Aramco pays 1.4 billion euro (for 50%) to become the full owner of Arlanxeo.
Aramco is the largest oil company worldwide (turn-over 2015: 318 billion $; 65200 employees in year 2016) and aims to expand it’s business vertically with the acquisition of manufacturing facilities for oil based chemicals. Lanxess will remain active in Antwerp, for example as manufacturer of polyamide.
