Jumbo is the second largest supermarket chain in The Netherlands (after Albert Heijn) and known for its low prices. It is owned by the family Group van Eerd. The company has made first steps to become operational in Belgium; it has registered “Jumbo Belgium” and opened a Belgian HQ in Antwerp. First contracts have been signed, but the precise location of the shops has not yet been disclosed. Jumbo works together with real estate consultants in order to identify the best locations.
The Belgian supermarketsector is on watch as Jumbo (Nl) appears on average 11% cheaper as compared to the cheapest Belgian supermarket Colruyt. The amount of investment has not been disclosed.
