
The German corporation Aurubis is the largest European manufacturer and recycler of copper; it started operations in Hamburg in the year 1866 as “Norddeutsche Affinerie”, has a turn-over (2014) of 11 billion euro and 6300 employees. In the year 2008 the copper activities of Umicore in Olen (540 employees) have been acquired. Aurubis Olen is mainly recycling copper from scrap.
Aurubis invests 100 million euro in Olen in order to improve and renovate the production process.
The company, also, wants to set up a factory for the recycling of coppersulfate from old batteries and to concentrate on the production of metals, other than copper.
