The British-Dutch consumer good company, Unilever, manufactures food and beverages, cleaning agents and beauty products (employees: 169000; turn-over 2017: 62 billion $).    Unilever owns 400 brands such as  Axe/ Lynx, Dove,Omo, Hellmann’s, Knorr, Lipton, Lux, Magnum, Rexona, Sunsilk and Surf.  The company acquires the largest local ice cream manufacturer of Romania, Betty Ice.  This company has been created  in 1994, has a turn-over of 30 million euro, 760 employees and a manufacturing site in Suceava (Romania).

Metair Investments Limited acquires a 35% stake in European supplier of Li-ion batteries, Primemotors (Romenia).

South  African manufacturer of automotive components and energy storage products, Metair Investments Limited (hq: Johannesburg; employees: 5900; turn-over (2017): 598 million euro) acquires 35% of Primemotors for 1 million euro. Primemotors delivers Li-ion batteries to European markets and will act as the European battery R&D center for Metair. Primemotors has started a cooperation with the University Polytehnica of Bucharest on “artificial intelligence solutions” for  autonomous driving. Metair operates manufacturing plants in Turkey, Romania, Germany and Kenya.

Lidl opens 20 retail outlets and a new IT development center in Romania.

Lidl opens 20 new retail outlets in Romania this year, providing 500 new jobs. In addition the company opens a new IT technical center in Bucharest for the development of  e-commerce technology. This center will provide employment to hundred IT experts. Currently Lidl has 5500 employees in Romenia and 315000 worldwide. Turn-over (2016): 78 billion euro. The invested amount has not been disclosed.

BSH Hausgerate (hq: Munchen/Germany) is a joint venture of Siemens AG and Bosch Gmbh. The company manufactures home equipment,  has 58300 employees and a turn-over (2016) of 17.8 billion euro . BSH operates 40 factories worldwide and invests 110 million euro in a new plot of land (42 ha) in Hunedoara/Simeria (Romenia) for the construction of a new manufacturing site for washing machines. Turkish automotive component supplier, Opsan, opens a new manufacturing facility in Romania.

Electric motor manufacturer, Nidec, opens a new factory in Romania.

Japanese multinational Nidec produces electric motors for electric appliances, hard disk drives and automobiles. The company is active on all continents and runs 300 operational companies with 110000 employees (turn over year 2017: 12 B $).

Nidec has opened a new manufacturing site at  Stefanesti (Romania) and invested several tenth’s of million euros.  There are already working 500 personns at this location and  within one year it will be more than 1000.

Miniso opens 40 new retail outlets in Romania; the first 5 outlets will be opened in Bucharest.

Miniso (hq: Guangzhou)  is a Chinese low-cost retailer that specializes in household and consumer goods including cosmetics, toys, and kitchenware. The company runs 1800 shops on all continents and reported a turn-over of 1.5 billion $ in 2016.

Continental AG (HQ: Hanover; Germany), is a German automotive corporation specialised in brake systems, electronics, powertrain and chassis components. It is also the fourth largest tire manufacturer worldwide. Number of employees: 235000 (2017); turn-over: 44.5 billion euro (2017).

Continental runs a manufacturing site for electronic components at Timisoara (Romania)  with 2700 employees and invested 370 million euro sofar (12 million euro in 2016). Another 6 million euro has been invested in 2017 and a new R+D center has been established. German IT service provider, Allgeier, acquires 2/3th of Romanian IT-expert iQuest.

Allgeier is one of the largest German IT service providers (HQ: Munchen) with 9000 employees  and a turn-over of 581 million euro (2017). The company serves 3000 clients worldwide  and has 140 branches.

Allgeier acquired 2/3th of the shares of iQuest, an IT service provider with HQ in Bad Homburg (D), 650 employees and operations in Poland,  Switserland, Romania and the USA.  The company is one of the largest IT service providers in Romania (360 employees) with operations in Cluj, Bucharest, Sibiu, Brasov and Craiova.  The invested amount has not been disclosed.

P3 Logistic Parks acquires a plot of land of 16ha for a new logistical park in Bucharest (Romania).

The Czech based logistical service company, P3 Logistic Parks, is one of the largest in Europe and operates 163 warehouses in 62 locations (3.3 million sqm). The company  has acquired a plot of land of 16ha close to Bucharest in order to establish a new logistical park of 80000 sqm. The invested amount has not been disclosed.

P3 Logistical Parks has been acquired in the year 2016 by GIC (the state owned investment company of  Singapore with a portfolio of 354 billion $) for 2.4 billion euro.

Penta Investments expands its portfolio of pharmaceutical retail outlets in Romania.

Penta Investments is an investment company with HQ in Prague (Czech Republic) and an investment portfolio of 7 billion euro and 200 employees. The company invests in retail, healthcare, financial services and real estate; with the Arta Drug Store Network and with Dr Max Drug Store Chain, it has a substantial portfolio of retail outlets for pharmaceuticals in CEEurope (631 outlets in CEE and 31 in Romania). One year ago, Penta Investments took over A&D Pharma, the leader of pharmaceutical retail outlets in Romania for approximately 350 million euro.

Italian car component manufacturer, Sogefi, opens a new factory in Oradea (Romania).

Sogefi is a manufacturer of car components (filtration, suspension, air- and cooling systems) with a headquarter in Mantova (Italy) and 41 plants worldwide. The company is a supplier to major car assemblers such as Ford, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen and has 7000 employees and a turn-over of 1.7 billion euro.

Sogefi invests 50 million euro in a new factory at Oradea’s Industrial Park (Romania) and creates 250 new jobs.  The plant will be constructed on 9.4 ha of land. Sogefi received a 21 million euro  grant from the Romanian government.

Renault increases capacity in the production at Mioveni (Romania) and invests 100 million euro.

MD Electronik (automotive components) opens a new factory in Vratsa (Bulgaria).

MD Electronik  MD Electronik is a German supplier of automotive components… in particular data related products such as cables, sensors and electronic equipment. The company has 4900 employees and a turn-over of 391 million euro (2017). Headquarters is located in  Waldkraiburg (German) and  factories are in Czech Republic, China and Mexico.

Samsung sells seven solar plants in Bulgaria to KGAL (Germany) and Micronix Group (Czechia).

KGAL Gmbh and Micronix Group (Czechia) together acquire seven solar plants in Bulgaria (43 MWp in total) from Samsung (Korea) for an amount above 88.9 million $.

The solar plants are located close to Vratsa (2), Letnitsa (3) and Veselinovo (1).  They represent 4.12 % of Bulgarian solar capacity and provide a turn-over of 12.8 million euro.  A new operational entity will be created with a 60% share for KGAL Gmbh.

KGAL Gmbh is an investment company  (Grünwald, Germany) with 335 employees (2016) and an investment portfolio of 22.7 billion euro , mainly in real estate, renewable energy and airplanes.

Teklas, full private company with HQ in Turkey (Kocaeli) , is a known supplier of automotive rubber parts for “fluid circulation systems’ with seven manufacturing facilities worldwide, offices in several countries (Germany, France, Bulgary, Serbia, Mexico, China) and 3600 employees. It  has invested 7 million euro in a new manufacturing plant as well as an R&D Center in Kardzhali (Bulgaria) in the past. The company announced additional investments in the factory at Vladicin Han (Serbia) that will create 500 new jobs, as well as the creation of a new factory in Vratsa (Bulgaria) with 500 new jobs (investment: 11.35 million euro).

Dunapack Rambox invests 45 million euro in a new corrugated board manufacturing site in the surroundings of Bucharest (Romania).

Danapack is owned by  the Prinzhorn Group (Austria, turn-over 1400 million euro), which is the third largest corrugated board manufacturer in Europe (sales volume: 1.6 billion m2 annually).   Prinzhorn runs 20 manufacturing sites and has  6600 employees in 15 countries .  Danapack runs a factory in Sfantu Gheorghe (Romania) with 250 employees and will construct a second manufacturing site close to Bucharest  with a 27000 m2 building on 17 ha of land. The new site will produce  180 million m2 corrugated board annually.

GTS Telecom, a telecommunications company in Romania, is  expanding it’s data center in Cluj Japoca and invests 310.000 euros. The company owns another data center in Bucharest and is part of GTS Central Europe, a company with headquarter in Warsaw (Poland).

E-mag is an  online  e-commerce platform for IT equipment, electronics, home apliances, personal care- and car products, books…. Naspers invests 120 million euro in a new logistical center for E-Mag in Romania.

H Essers is expanding  (investment: 15 million euros) its  110000 m2 facility in Boucharest (Romania) with another 150000m2 and opens a new warehouse of 10000 m2. It will serve as a main hub in South East Europe and cover hazardous products and pharmaceuticals. The  number of employees will be increased from 180 to 285 individuals. ABB Group expands the manufacturing of “products for electric low voltage connections” in Bulgaria.

ABB Group is a Swedish/Swiss manufacturer of products for electric power grids, automation and robotics with  147000 employees and a turn-over of  34.3 billion $ (2017; HQ: Zurich, Switserland).  The company is well established in Bulgaria with operations and manufacturing sites in Petrich, Rakovski, Sevlievo and Sofia and employs 2700 persons in this country. ABB invests  4.2 million $ in a 7400 m2 facility in Petrich for the production of products for electric low voltage connections.  420 New jobs will be created.
